SES declared in February 2011 that it had contracted Orbital Sciences Corporation to build the SES-8 spacecraft for a launch in the first quarter of 2013.
At the orbital location of 95° East, SES-8 will be co-positioned with NSS-6 and will have 33 high-power Ku-band (36 MHz-equivalent) transponders. SES-8 is a medium-sized satellite with beams targeted at South Asia (India) and Indo-China (Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos). It provides backup and expansion transponder capacity for current DTH customers. The spacecraft will be constructed on Orbital’s STAR spacecraft architecture, which has been flight-tested and will produce about 5.0 kilowatts of payload power.
A geostationary communication satellite named SES-8 is located at a longitude of 95° East. It is a satellite run by the international satellite communications firm SES S.A. SES-8 is intended to deliver communication services to several Asian regions, including India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, including television transmission, broadband internet access, and other data services.

The satellite is in a geostationary orbit, which allows it to remain fixed in relation to a particular spot on the Earth’s surface at 95° East longitude because it revolves around the planet with the same speed and direction as the planet’s rotation. This makes it possible to offer consistent and dependable communication services to the regions it covers.
